[2016-01-21] RPG Review of Darkly Through the Labyrinth

[Pre-Release Review PDF]

The first thing to note is the stunning visual artwork on the cover and throughout. Next is the layout which is impeccable and fits the feel of the game perfectly. It's easy to read and a pleasure on the eyes.

Me, I'm not big into reading PDFs, so I printed this out for the review.

The small book includes a table of contents, a lovely index, and a character sheet. What's missing is a sample adventure but perhaps a quickstart/convention style booklet would do wonders at some point.

The meat of the book is separated into four chapters.

2016-01-21 [Marvel] Last Days of Silver Surfer #015

The Last Days of The Doctor.... er... Silver Surfer.

I picked up the of this series when it came out and while I didn't hate it, I really didn't much like it. SIlver Surfer is one of those characters I always enjoyed in general and while the art of the series sings "old-school" I found the writing of to be dull.

OSCon 5.5

This past weekend I attended the nascent at Wilmar Heights Event Centre in Toronto with .

I believe that this startup has some roots in OSRCon however I do not know the details of any connections except that I somehow gained contact with an organizer of OSCon 5.5 through something OSRCon related online. That is if my memory serves me much at all in this case.

2015-12-29 [IDW] Jem and the Holograms #1-7

This comic hits the nail on the head for being in the spirit of the source material. The only real way it deviates is by shoving homosexuality down your throat but that's our culture speaking. There's no need for it in the story but it's there to make us more LBGT friendly (which people generally are or are not - neither of which is a pressing issue for a fun little comic book). Notably, the letters page does contain various reader comments praising the inclusion of homosexuals.

[Shepherd Neame] Premium Spitfire Kentish Ale 4.2% 500ml Tall Boy Can

This is one of the few drinks where I have completed multiple tastings. You might wonder why, especially when it seems as though I may not like it. Well, I'm not entirely sure except that I'm a little fascinated by this ale. I like to find the optimal drinking circumstances for some drinks. Should it be ice cold, slightly chilled, warm, bottled, canned, etc? So here goes my fifth tasting.

C10K - Hook, Line, and...

This chapter sees them bait the hook in the style of "The Sting." It also shows us the moral code used by protagonists in Spider Robinson's Callahan series.

There are some neat interactions and I laughed out loud three times while reading (much to the chagrin of someone sleeping beside me).

A book that makes me laugh is worth it's weight in gold.

Shiny!

C9K - Carping the Diem

This chapter took us a little further into things; just a little. It was so awesome to see...

C8K The Prose and Cons of Rape Fiction

This story jumps off with rape, but the consensual kind and later mentions it again in the non-consensual way.

There is more description of the House layout and why it's the best whorehouse ever built. Truly a house of pulchritude.

This first chapter is the setup. Can the next fulfil expectations? My cup is ready.

Where We Go From Here X-Files

I started out as a Forester you know. I'm not sure what possessed me to apprentice and follow those fools to the island.

"Emile," I say weakly having just opened my eyes again. I see him rush away from me with his mace held high. He's chanting and it starts to glow.

I see Axton surrounded by short shadowy opponents. If Emile is joining the fray, it's bad. Where the heck is Albion?

I see a bright blue light streak toward one of the creatures. When it strikes him with a splash, he drops. That wail. Oh crap. This is where Ovrianna should strike.

[2015-11-15] 15mm Modern Spy from Rebel Minis

These are the first 15mm minis I've painted. They are certainly the smallest I have tried to date and I look forward to trying the 10mm Napoleonics I have sometimes

These guys came in a pack titled Modern Havoc from Rebel Minis (which I acquired through Noble Knight Games).
