Mechanics: Swords & Wizardry Complete
Module: Monty Haul's Lesser Tower of Doom
GM: Archergirl
Player: Kersus

Characters (all first level):
Longhorn the Dwarf Fighter/Thief
Guy the Elf Fighter/Magic-User/Thief
Clara the Human Cleric
Lyra the Human Paladin

NPCs:
Cheeky the Torchbearer
Ed the Porter
Merc1 the Man-at-Arms
Merc2 the Man-at-Arms

We arrived, the Thieves reconnoitred, and we went to the front door. Some time was spent examining the door and a voice spoke to us. We took it's meaning to be "Don't enter through this portal." We didn't. We wandered around and noticed the odd foundation.

Underneath the balcony the Thieves climbed up and after carefully examining things (hanging from spikes and looking in) they dropped rope to the others.  The warhorse was sent off and all came up.

We didn't like the initial room as it seemed too good and used a Merc as a guinea pig. We completed some exploration and mapping to figure the walls move. Great.

While roped together, the torchbearer Cheeky moved out of sight and came back to us in a sack of death. Feeling our blood boil, we girded ourselves for combat and went to face his killer.

The creature was fearsome and we all thought we would die right there but we defeated it with no small thanks to a well placed firepot.

We considered letting the Thieves climb up top but decided against it.

We went back to the safety room and after some rest moved the other way around the edge of the tower as best we could. Someone must have tripped a cord as a giant spider came down upon us and we decided to us fire on everything.

We lost one of our few ranged weapons but found some cool items in the webbing. Some inspection helped us realize to our horror that the whole ceiling was covered in spiders and we could be ambushed at any time.

If the men-at-arms weren't terrified enough by the strange creature earlier, they were certainly jumpy now. Trying to open a door seemed to cause the walls to shift. We decided to backtrack and made it to the safety room.

We went back the other way, trying to skirt the outside wall of the tower as best as possible and started marking our way. The door we found was etched into and staked open. Stumbling upon some Orcs, we tried to lead them into an ambush instead of charging for surprise and our ambush failed on two fronts. We retreated a bit but finally dispatched the enemies.

We found more of the brutes but decided not to attack and went back to the safety room.
