and the sequel
Gator (1976) with Lauren Hutton, Jack Weston, and Jerry "Snowman" Reed

Despite some flaws, White Lightning works. Despite its obvious bigger budget, Gator does not.

Fun fact: Steven Spielberg was the original director for White Lightning, which was to be his first feature film (Duel was made for TV), but he quit a few months into pre-production.

Billed as a Mystery/Comedy, the mystery remains unresolved and the "comedy" is better described as satire. I'd like to watch the original cut before the studio chopped fifteen minutes out. Still, it's not as bad as I make it sound.

A really good '50s horror flick.
Fun fact: James Arness was originally considered for the role of Davy Crockett, but after Disney saw Fess Parker's performance in this movie, he offered the role to Fess instead.
Funner fact: Darwood/Derwood/Dum-Dum Stevens ("Bewitched" reference) had an uncredited role.
Funnest fact: As did Leonard Nimoy.

Spent a week house/pet-sitting at my aunt's again. Only watched one movie.

John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023) Keanu Reeves, Donnie "Ip Man" Yen, Ian McShane, Bill Skarsgård

While I still stand by my assertion the John Wick is a better franchise than Fast and Furious and creates a more coherent world based on the rules established the first movie, this installment seems to make a good-faith effort to prove me a liar. It failed, but it tried. The movie's main flaw is too many fight scenes lasting too long creating in the audience the feeling that you're watching a video game. At ten minutes short of a three hour runtime, I feel that an hour could be cut out with no loss of story. Still, it was a fitting end to the story.

Due to tax troubles, Nick has been making a lot movies of dubious quality. Some, like Willy's Wonderland, turn out to be rough gems. Others are just rough. Mandy falls into the "gem" category. What it lacks in originality of story (after the abduction and murder of wife, husband goes on a vengeful rampage) it more than makes up for it in atmosphere. Good lord, this movie has atmosphere. And a tiger. Not for everyone, however.

It was good to see Bill Duke in front of the camera. even if for only a single expository scene.

The last movie to feature Karloff and Legosi together. Good movie. Actually, a very good movie. It packs a lot of story into a tight one hour eighteen minute run-time.
