Ə - Bell of Freedom

When this bell is rung, all binds within range of its peal that restrict an unwilling bindee are undone. The magic will unlock doors, untie knots, release manacles, etc. The magic only recognizes whether the detainment was voluntary or not, not whether it was warranted or necessary.

Ə - Hammer of Justice

A Hammer +1

What? Hey, they can't all be high-powered and mystical. Sometimes low-powered items are needed. Like a friend used to say, "Not all barkeeps are retired adventurers, and not all swords are Vorpal."

The Fallible Fiend by L. Sprague De Camp

The odd story of an indentured demon that reminded me a bit of Screwtape Letters (CS Lewis). I picked up this little gem in a used book store and immediately fell into it.

The first half of this small book is...

Ə - A Treatise(‽) on Magic Items

There are three types of magical items in Ə (so far). We've seen complementary magic items like Wands and Staves that provide their power in conjunction with spell casting, or magic weapons that provide a boost to combat. We've also seen innate magic items where their power is either always "on", such as Boots of Joyous Comfort, or activated, such as the Potion of Tasty Numminess which must be consumed to receive any benefit.

Ə - Bag of Luck

(Most likely needs some cleaning up, but here's a new magic item.)

Training Needles

I chose this week to visit some friends in Toronto and almost melted into a puddle on the sidewalk. Of all the weeks to visit them, I HAD to pick this one. The trip up was quite enjoyable, I took the train and knit most of the way there. It was my first time knitting on a train and it went pretty smoothly even through turbulent sections.

The way back it was way too warm to work on my ten-stitch blanket so I opted to play on my 3ds instead. (I'm not entirely sure the a/c was working on the train, I was sweating bullets the whole ride.)

I think Afghan..I think Afghan...

I love instant gratification projects, a few hours work (or less) and tada....a finished project. So I'm trying to figure out why I keep working on blankets. They are as far from 'instant' gratification as you can get, they're more of a 'long-suffering' gratification. I officially started blanket today, it's become a bit of an addiction I think.

Swords Against Death by Fritz Leiber

The second anthology of short stories placed sequentially through the life of Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser shortly after Swords & Deviltry.

I enjoyed the mellifluous writing and the adventures themselves. The climax for each short story was usually thrilling however the general flow was slow and that made it easy for your mind to wander. Each story introduction leaned toward loquaciousness.
