I'm not sure when I saw the first one of Jackson's Hobbit flicks but I vaguely recall liking it despite not agreeing with his vision.
I just watched The Desolation of Smaug. Perhaps I wasn't in the right mood but it really felt like he took a fun, fast-paced story and dragged it out into a long winded retelling with some vain attempt to make Legolas look less girlie. I was very bored through most of the added storylines and even the good parts from the book seemed extra slow.
Despite Tauriel/Kili being quite touching, it really had no impact on the story and Legolas is completely out of place and ridiculous.
The movie ended well, Smaug was cool, and the closing song was good.
