Crochet Pattern - Pensive Brimmed Hat

I wanted a nice textured hat with a flipped up brim and this hat came about!

Hook size: 5.5 mm (Check out my fave hooks here: )
Yarn used: Worsted weight
Gauge: Not overly important
Colours: I changed colours randomly, you can use all one colour or change at the start of any row. Having a contrasting brim colour

Do not join unless stated.

Top of the hat

Round 1: 8 hdc into a magic ring.

Place marker in 1st hdc of round and move up as you go to keep track of start. (8 stitches)

These next rows are to help increase evenly:
Round 2: 2 hdc in each st around. - 16 stitches
Round 3: (1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st) around. - 24 stitches
Round 4: (1 hdc in next 2 stitches, 2 hdc in next st) around. - 32 stitches
Round 5: (1 hdc in next 3 stitches, 2 hdc in next st) around. - 40 stitches
Round 6: 1 hdc in each st around. - 40 stitches
Round 7: (2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 4 stitches) around. - 48 stitches
Round 8: (2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 5 stitches) around. -56 stitches
Round 9: 1 hdc in each st around. -56 stitches
Round 10: (2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 6 stitches) around. -64 stitches

I stopped increasing here because the hat fit my 22 inch round head, you may need another increase row if your head is bigger.

Body of hat
Round 11: 1 hdc in back loop in each st around (helps shape the top)
Round 12: 1 hdc in back loop of each st
Repeat round 12 until desired length before brim is reached. slip stitch to join, and turn. (turning ensures the brim stitch pattern is on right side once we flip it up).

This next row forms the hinge for the brim
Brim round 1: 1 hdc in back loop of each stitch., join w slip stitch.
Brim round 2: hdc in the third loop (it's the loop behind the hdc '<' )
Repeat round 2 until the brim is long enough
slip stitch and fasten off.
weave in ends.

Flip up the brim and wear your new hat!

I changed colour as I felt like it or you can do it in one colour.
