I thought the entire point of bunching onions was that they were bunching onions. Thin a plant that you harvest when it gets to the thickness of a pencil to the same spacing as the Sweet Spanish Yellow Utah Jumbo Onion? It's no wonder that after over ten years, I still haven't figured this gardening shit out.
Are they perennial bunching Onions? I don't thin them and I don't ever pull the roots out anymore. I rip them off and they regrow. I leave them in bunches. They like it. I think they get sad when you thin them.
