I manage the computers at a public library. For whatever reason, one site keeps crashing. I factory restore, update, install needed software, turn on kiosk, and a few days later it crashes.
So, I was thinking about plugging in Linux instead of Windows 7 (all of them are W7 although a new W10 machine is coming). Only two are kiosks with the rest being just normal PCs (8 total but only 7 with Internet - the 8th for young kid games) .

http://porteus-kiosk.org/
are options. I can get away with browser-only functionality although people will complain if MSOffice is not available. OpenOffice sometimes works but they always complain if MSOffice isn't there.
On the librarian's machine they have given up on OpenOffice and demand MSOffice.
