How to Not Make Money on a Web Site
#1
I think I have the subject settled.

Moving on...

I'm going to try and increase the value of a web site in the hopes of making money via traffic or eventually flipping it. The site ranks at a value over $4K but of course, no one will pay that right now. In fact, I doubt I'll ever see a real offer.

So here's the plan, albeit a foolish one. FYI, it's geographic...

Reset the site (no not this one, another one), put a map, calendar of events, some local links, adsense, and a box advertising the domain for sale.

Now, instead of just HTMLing the site, which would make way too much sense, I'm trying to find the right gateway that will allow for all of those things. An embedded map, calendar, domain sale, and links.

SuperCali looks like a great Calendar, but I don't want to link to it, I want it embedded. No, Google is not on the table except for AdSense.

Joomla? I don't like Joomla, but I already have to work on it for other clients....

Wordpress? I haven't used this since it sucked and had no way to personalize it with any effect. In fact, Furiously Eclectic started out as a WordPress site way before I started the MyFreeForums that we never should have left. I did Drupal because I thought it would be easier to customize. Dodgy

Pixie? It looks cute and might work but I don't know if it can do what I want.

Sitemagic? I think it does mobile better.....

On another note, I hope to have my ebooks for sale on tripleoakleaf.com via OpenCart someday if indeed it can handle such transactions. I'd also like to sell refurb PCs through it and maybe even Webroot Security.

I also need to somehow find the absolute easiest blog platform for my mother to use. I tried Ghost and well, it sucked Oscar the Grouch's hairy bottom after he sat in ashes and vomit. I also think one for my father would be nice, but in his case, he would have to get my mother to type up the post, send it to me, and I'd post it. Thus, I want it REALLY easy. BUT they all have to look good too and that's my weakest skill. Just look at this site. I haven't a clue how to make it actually look decent.

Blah.
