I have not read any of the previous volumes of this series. In fact I had not even heard of it before this one was proffered in Diamond.
It was fantasy, and I wanted to give it a try. It was also not a mainstream comic book company which added to the attraction. Yes, I like supporting the smaller companies and indie projects.
I was a little worried as it has a story with a quick release cycle so once ordered, it was unlikely I could cancel if the first one sucked. On the flipside, it's set to get the whole story to you very quickly if it doesn't suck.
What a pleasant surprise it was. The characters are fun, well thought out, and fit in the environment selected. The whole first issue just flowed like a storyteller's dream. Quick, easy to follow, with enough crunch to feel like it was money well spent.
Rogues feels a little like Fafhrd & the Gray Mouser with a twist, added humour and less angst.
I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys Sword & Sorcery fantasy with some slapstick humour.
