C2A Not even Self contempt.

This chapter give some more insight into the main character. I had no idea she was so young, I was imagining a woman in her 30's! Also gives some more insight into her background, her daddy issues and issues with love.

I loved the tour Maureen took of the House, it was very thrilling to imagine. Very inner-eye visually appealing.

Lady Sally sounds like a proper lady, she can be kind and gentle but can also kick your butt on a moments notice. I'd love to know her story.

C1K The Lady - Manners!

I had almost forgotten how much I like Spider Robinson's prose. He turns a phrase well and the scene becomes clear in my mind. I even find the weirdness believable and very, very settling.
...if people wanted to walk their werebeagles here it was none of my affair.
was my first audible guffaw. It's a sudden turn like this that creates a unique charm to Robinson's characters.

C1A The man in the buttcheek apron

We started reading Callahan's lady tonight and I gotta say the first chapter just whet my appetite for the book. I had a hard time putting it down.

It was really action-filled and quite humorous. I got a kick out of the 'were-beagle' and laughed quite thoroughly at the balding man in the apron and harness.

One of my favourite lines from the chapter was from that same character, he said '.....please don't tell Mistress Cynthia please don't or she *won't* punish me tonight!' It made me giggle profusely.

The Dance

For the first time we rented a hall to practice our ballroom dancing.

It's been awhile and I'm still recovering from surgery on my leg but I am eager to move forward.

It was bumpy at first but we ran through everything we knew. It was fun to dance however I think we'll enjoy it more when we start adding new moves. Perhaps 3-4 per practice session?

Sleep

It's hard to get used to new sleep habits, especially when it comes to sharing a bed.

There's the extra movement and noise as well as lost space to sprawl out. You may feel worried about being a bother and make yourself uncomfortable. You may have different preferences for sheets and heat. You may not be used to another person touching you or draping themselves over top of you. I'm sure there are more things people can list that are concerns...

What You Missed

Hi there,

I am testing this out as a collaborative content and blogging platform. The usage here will start with a two person book club between myself and Archergirl.

We have previously completed two books:

Out Of The Silent Planet by CS Lewis
The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald

We had a good time going through those books together and the next book on the plate is:

Callahan's Lady by Spider Robinson

GaryCon Debrief Part One

GaryCon VI (2014) was my second GaryCon after GaryCon III (2011).

I went to GCIII alone and stayed with Forgie who took care of me and showed me the sights. I also got some quality time with Jim Ward. It was a heckuva drive (16.5 hours there in one shot and I think about 12 on the way back).

I had been wanting to return for GCV but an injury kept me away. Circumstances not only allowed me to attend VI but to also bring my companion AND stay at the resort.

Prep

So, I made some choices that eliminated the chance to have a day to prepare for surgery. It causes me stress.

I'm not stressed for the actual surgery, just about getting all the work done beforehand and having my place setup for afterwards.

I can't see making a different choice than I did. I chose a person over my work. As a personal code, I try to choose people over other things and a particular person over all else. This code often leaves me scrambling to do the impossible.

Rhythym

It takes time to make a ritual become natural; to create a routine that works for you.

I find a solid but moderately flexible routine makes me more productive. In fact it's not just "more" productive, but vastly more productive.

I find it very difficult to keep it or get back into it and also zestfully pursue that whole sucking the marrow out of life - which is to say, living to the fullest.

Like many things, it's a balancing act.

Why do I write about this? Who knows. It's time to get some Zzzzzzs and thought I'd post something.

Battle Creek

The first leg of our adventure is complete.

We left at 10:30am and made good time. Two service centre stops and a Cracker Barrel. The border essentially waived us through after we handed over our fruit.

Neither the phones nor the GPS worked near the border but I had a feel for my way.
